If you already have your Pocket export, you can import it into wallabag and keep reading with an open source read-it-later app.
Pocket shut down in 2025 and exporting data from the service is no longer available. This guide assumes you already downloaded your Pocket export while it was still possible.
wallabag can be used in two ways: you can self-host your own instance, or use wallabag.it if you prefer a hosted service with upgrades and backups handled for you.
Pocket migration checklist
- Locate the Pocket CSV export you already downloaded and keep the original file somewhere safe.
- Create or choose a wallabag instance: self-host wallabag, use wallabag.it, or look for a community host such as CHATONS.
- Import your Pocket CSV export into wallabag.
- Review the imported entries and keep the original export as a backup.
- Install the browser extension or mobile app you want to use for saving new articles.
Why choose wallabag after Pocket?
Own your reading archive
wallabag is free and open source. You can host it yourself and keep control of your saved links and reading habits.
Keep reading everywhere
Use wallabag from the web, Android, iOS, browser extensions, RSS readers and some e-readers.
Keep improving over time
The project is maintained by contributors and still receives releases, import improvements and security fixes.
What to expect
The import is designed to bring your saved Pocket links into wallabag. Once imported, wallabag can fetch article content, let you tag entries, archive what you have read and keep a searchable reading list.
Some pages may be unavailable, blocked, deleted or difficult to extract depending on the original website. Since Pocket exports can no longer be requested, keeping your original export is especially important.
